Bob Walton of Wyckoff, NJ and his co-author, Sal Santoro were the featured guests on Friday, July 11, when Hemming’s Motor News celebrated National Collector Car Appreciation Day at their headquarters in Bennington, Vermont. Walton and Santoro, also known as “The “Route 66 Guys,” gave an audio-visual presentation about historic Route 66 and then signed copies of their highly acclaimed book, Route 66, The People-The Places-The Dream which is a Jay Leno’s Book Club selection. The special event drew upwards of 200 collector cars from many different states and Canada.

Route 66, The People-The Places-The Dream, chronicles the 38 day coast-to-coast road trip the authors and long-time friends took in Bob’s 1968 Cadillac convertible which was prominently displayed at the event. Their round-trip odyssey covered 7,292 miles including all of historic Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. The book consists of 260 pages and more than 500 color photographs.

Last year Jay Leno invited Santoro and Walton to Burbank, California to visit his spectacular car collection and to be interviewed about Route 66, their fun-filled adventure and the book which tells their story. A video of Leno interviewing the guys at his “Big Dog Garage” can be seen at www.Route66Guys.com.

Critics have been unanimous in their praise of Route 66, The People-The Places-The Dream. Paul Taylor of Route 66 Magazine called the book “a photojournalistic achievement.” MotorWeek Television classified it a “must read.” Steve Natale of Examiner.com gave it five stars. Lars Kneller, President of the International Cadillac and LaSalle Club stated, “This is a truly wonderfully well written book.”

Route 66, The People-The Places-The Dream can be previewed and purchased at www.Route66Guys.com.
